Low rates attract the worst clients, create resentment and prevent you from having time to improve your skills and income. Why freelancers undercharge Why this is wrong What to do instead 'I have no experience or reviews' Low price does not compensate for no reviews — it just attracts bad clients who also complain more Price based on the VALUE you deliver, not your confidence level. Offer a guarantee instead. 'Competition is charging less' Competing on price is a race to the bottom. Someone in another country will always charge less. Compete on quality, reliability and communication — not price. Be worth more, charge more. 'I am Pakistani, clients expect low rates' International clients who choose you for your rate alone are the first to leave when someone cheaper appears. Position as a specialist. Specialists charge rates — not labour rates. $25/hour for PPC is cheap. 'What if they say no?' Fear of rejection causes permanent undercharging. Most clients who say yes to $200 would have said yes to $350. Quote your real rate. If they say no, ask why. Their feedback tells you what to improve. 'I will raise rates after 3 months' The client is now anchored to your low rate. Raising it feels like a betrayal — many will leave. Start at the correct rate. It is much harder to raise rates than to start correctly. The Facilitators Academy • Lecture 28: Pricing, Contracts & Payments • thefacilitators.net • +92 304 5224838 How to Price Your Services — A Complete Framework Use this framework to set confident, defensible rates for every service you offer Price = your time cost + market rate + value delivered + client budget. Start with market rate, adjust up for value and specialization, adjust down only for long-term retainers. Step 1 Research Market Rate Search your exact service on Fiverr (sort by Top Rated), Upwork and Pakistani Facebook freelancer groups. Note: what do experienced freelancers charge? Not beginners — target the rate you will reach in 6 months, not where you start. Step 2 Calculate Your Floor Rate Monthly income target (e.g. PKR 60,000) ÷ Available work hours per month (e.g. 120 hours) = PKR 500/hour floor. This is the minimum you should ever accept — below this you are working at a loss considering your time cost. Step 3 Add Value Premium Specialized skills command premiums: Amazon PPC = +50%. Facebook Ads = +40%. AI video = +30%. English fluency = +20%. Fast turnaround = +25%. Add the relevant premiums to your floor rate to get your standard rate. Step 4 Test With Anchoring Present 3 options when possible: Basic (entry package), Standard (most value), Premium (full service). Clients rarely choose the cheapest. The Standard package looks reasonable next to Premium — this is anchoring. Step 5 Raise Rates Every 6 Months Set a calendar reminder. Every 6 months: review your skills, reviews and client results. Raise rates 20–30% for new clients. Existing clients get 3 months notice with 15% increase — this is professional and expected.
